Insect
Spider is my totem animal. This picture is from Classroom Clipart ad has been edited in Gimp and Picasa. At Quizilla is one test to find out your totem animal. An interesting subject. Edit/ A good over all article on totems at Soulful Living. com Edit / I have just learned that spiders are not insects but am keeping my spider here in spite of that. About the joint-leg species in Animalia please go see Natural Perspective. I was quite excited to learn new things, never too late for that. Edit / A really good Animal Totem web site at Animal Totem

Oooh..very scary! I like the effects you used on this. What does it mean to have a spider as your totem animal?
Hi Carla, thanks. To have spider as my totem animal means that spider is my spiritual power = totem animal, that will guide through difficult times. It is originally an indian belief, but I find it very fascinating and went through a lot of thinking to actually find spider as my own totem. There is a good article about totem animals at http://www.soulfulliving.com/yournumberformar03.htm
if you or anyone else is interested.
very beautiful picture. I'm fascinated by the idea of a totem animal and am familiar with the American Indian beliefs. Going to check out that link.

Eww. Creepy. It looks like you. Wait... I don't mean you look creepy. I mean your colors kind of match and spiders are creepy.
BTY: My power animal owl will eat your spider. Bwhahahahahahahahahaha. Gaakkkk.
I swallowed a bug.
love
Woe, really looks and feels like a spider, beautiful work, very interesting the idea of a totem insect, i'll have to check it out.
so well done it is frightening!!! but with beauty!
Spider is one of my power animals too - my father was at my birth said I looked like one!
I have found that "being" a spider and a woman is handy when I'm doing housework!
Whoope forgot to comment on the picture! Its brilliant - wonderful colours
Thanks Marie-Dom abd Hardwax, totem animals are a fascinating thing.
Unkknown LOL, got to beware of owls :-)
Thanks Valerie.
Thanks Caroline, I found out in me that in case of nasty situtations and in bad places, my words come out with venom. I normally do not talk like that ever, only when I am being threatened.
I surely hope I had help from spiders in house work, my weak point.
Impressive work! I really like the colors and effects. They give the Spider an almost spiritual quality.
Great artwork. Love the colors and distortions (?) in background.
You do know, though, that officially spiders aren't insects? or even bugs!!
They have one too few body parts and one pair too many legs to be insects. Just saying. Wouldn't want your totem to be mixed up about YOU, either.
Great job. Scary and distrubing, but great illo.
Thanks Mike and Tony. Painterwoman, I didn't know spider wasn't an actual insect. Never too late for me to learn new things, thanks !
Magical spider...looks like she's spinning light!
Thanks for coming by my blog and giving me such great encouragement!
Dug a little into Greek mythology for some spiderish tales...enjoy.

wow, it looks deadly! very well done, as usual...thank to link, I find out that my totem animal is..........................
:)
Katili, Very scary ...... My son is a spider and is full of endless energy. It is very interesting this totem thing.......Im Water by nature and have to find out my animal totem!
Terryfying spider ..... the web always gives me the creeps .....
Nice work!
Thanks Lori. An interesting tale of Arachne, I had great visions of the webs she did and, the bull swimming and everything. A tragic end to the story, though.
Thanks Aynaku, I think it's deadly too, I wanted it to be the guardian spirit image, something that stands by me constantly. Have a fascinating time finding your own totem.
Thanks Zordis, have no fear of my spider, it could never harm good people. Nice to hear your son is spider, energy is one thing I have in common with him and all other spiders.
Hope you find your totem as well.
My daughter was afraid of spiders when she was young. I understood her fear very well and had to save both her and our house spider Hemmo, who always has lived here. The house spider has a habbit of hanging from ceilings and appearing unexpected, to fobic people, anyway.
I love the colours of your picture Katili, the spider looks quite dangerous in those red shining colours.
And I did check out my totem animal, a wolf, whatever that means, I just have to go to soulful living to find that out :)
You have done a great work here as always!
Thanks Elin. A wolf, hmmh, I kind of feel that might be true, a wolf to guide you and give you prtection. While you check on Soulful Living, look at different kinds of totems, spider is my life long animal totem.
I love the look and feel of your piece.
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog.

Cool- he looks transfixed by... SPIDER POWER! Groovie!
Thanks Marie and Tony. And thanks Catraven, I am that kind of superstitious, too. Always did the same with bees also to get them to fly outside. A postcard on the window, and when the bee walks on it, a drinking glass as a cover and out goes the bee alive and happy.
Beautiful effects. Love the colors.
On spiders helping with house work - I had a strange dream in which I was walking down a street and aware that I was dreaming. I said to my friend, lets look in all the windows. And in one was an advert that said something like:
Spiders need housekeeper!
When I woke up I decided that this was the spiders way of telling me they approved of house work and that they were willing to help.
I then tried experimenting with pretending to be a spider (and a woman) whilst doing some and found I was much stronger but also that I had a tendency to want to turn furniture over and over!
I've never noticed the venom effect you mention!
Thanks Suzan.
Oh Caroline, what an experience and a dream. Now I understand more. It really is something that affected your every day life. Some of my dreams work the same way.
The venom thing is, I think, my personal spider protection. It is there because I am a bit too vulnerable and blue eyed with a lot of life's realities. I have the tendency of trusting everyone at first sight and in cases of misuse of my trust, the spider may attack.
Very cool, looks like an insect to me!!!
looks like that spider is coming down the waterspout. well done. it reminds me of a firefly. i always catch my spiders too and put them outside. it drives my girls crazy.
Thanks Michael, I can imagine your girls screaming but am very happy for the spiders you taking them out.
Thanks Lyn !
My previous comment disappeared. hmm; hope there won't be two...
That is a creepy spider; it looks like it is on fire. I had read that spider totem is a creater; and I think Jung says that it is a mother symbol; a caretaker; one who nurtures.
A shaman brought me horse as my totem. Horse medicine is the medicine of ultimate power; true power comes through the wisdom you acquire by remembering your total journey, not only in this life time, but the life times that came before. Freedom, beauty through strength, movement, mobility, stamina, mobility, message-carrier, astral travel, sharing power with others
An interesting take on the whole insect subject
That is such a great picture, I really love it. Can I ask how you find out what your totem animal is?
Thanks AscenderRisesAbove, creator is what I also have learned about spider. I almost felt I knew someone like you by reading about your totem , horse.
Thanks Saul Iscariot, I studied my self and my dreams, did a couple of tests, but mostly letting the totem animal show it self to me when I emptied my head of all thoughts and concentrated in search. Guess there are shamans that could find a totem animal for one, but not here in Finland, not any I know of.
oh mench! that gives me the creepy crawlies! eek!
Had to go and look at some more of your art. Love this spider. My animal totem is the cheetah! Has been all my life. Keep up the great work!
